BUREAU-CABINET WITH UPPER SECTION
Louis XV, Berne ca. 1770.
Walnut, burlwood, cherry and domestic fruitwoods, finely inlaid with reserves, fillets and decorative frieze. Hinged writing surface, opening up into a fitted interior with a central drawer between 4 compartments, and with 3 drawers and 2 compartments on each side. Below, 3 sans-traverse drawers, the top drawer divided in 2. Secret compartment. Upper section with double-doors, 1 large drawer and 3 central, slatted doors below a large compartment, flanked by 5 drawers below a compartment. Drawer interiors lined with "Herrenhuter" paste paper. Gilt bronze mounts and drop handles, in part later.
