LARGE CLOCK WITH CARILLON

Louis XV, in the style of P. JAQUET-DROZ (Pierre Jaquet-Droz, La Chaux-de-Fonds 1721-1790 Biel), Neuchâtel ca. 1760/70.
Purpleheart in veneer and finely inlaid à la reine. "En cuvette" enamel dial above an engraved brass front plate. Movement with verge escapement, striking the 4/4-hour on 2 bells. Rack striking mechanism. Repetition on demand. Carillon with 10 melodies and 11 bells chimes on the hour and on demand, with silent setting. Sequence of the melodies can be set. With mute setting. Opulent gilt bronze mounts and applications.
56x26x138 cm.

The clock on offer was painted black in the 19th century, as was common at that time after the death of a family member. The clock was later returned to its original condition. The veneer is strongly restored. The clock is reminiscent of the works of P. Jaquet-Droz, the most important clockmaker of La Chaux-de-Fonds.
