Having examined this work in the original, in his report Dr. Schulz notes that this moonlit landscape contains all the elements of the artist’s outstanding skill, with its atmospheric depiction of the great expanse of a Dutch river landscape in the evening, with a strong perspective and reflected light. Due to the lack of moonlit landscapes which have been dated, it is not possible to place the work chronologically with any certainty, but according to Dr. Schulz, it can be assumed that this moonlit river landscape was produced in the 1650s in Amsterdam.
