BESCHEY, BALTHASAR
1708 Antwerp 1776
Balthasar Beschey began his career as a landscape painter, but later switched to history and portrait painting. He became a master in the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke in 1752 and was director of the Antwerp Academy of Arts from 1755. Beschey played a prominent role in the development of the Academy of Arts in Antwerp. He also ran an art restoration workshop and was an art dealer. Thanks to his connections in England, he was able to export Flemish paintings to England.
