BANKSY

Bankys ist das Pseudonym eines britischen Graffiti – und Streetart Künstlers, dessen Identität bis heute nicht aufgedeckt worden ist. Es wird vermutet, dass er 1973 oder 1974 in der Nähe von Bristol geboren ist. Mit seinen Schablonengraffitis wirkt er weltweit. Überwiegend im öffentlichen Raum hat er aber auch schon unauthorisierte Werke in der Tate Modern in London, dem Museum of Modern Art New York oder dem Louvre gemacht. Viele seiner Motive wie die Ratte, das Mädchen mit dem Ballon oder der Flower Thrower sind zu Ikonen geworden. In einer spektakulären Abendauktion bei Sotheby’s London2018 wurde das Werke „Love is in the Bin“ nach dem Zuschlag durch eine im Rahmen verborgene Vorrichtung teils in Streifen geschnitten. Banskys Werke kommentieren aktuelle politische Krisen und Ereignisse, wobei seine kritische und pazifistische Haltung deutlich hervortritt.
