Born in 1972, the Belgian Kris Martin, with his multifaceted œuvre of drawings, sculptures, installations and photographs, is one of the most influential artists within contemporary conceptual art, which has a long tradition in Belgium. With his participation in the 4th Berlin Biennale in 2006, Kris Martin's work became accessible to a larger, international art public, and the presentation at P.S.1 in New York that followed in 2007 consolidated his reputation.

Martin's œuvre deals with human existence and its contradictions, analysing situations with poetry, wit and humour, but also vehemence. He often draws on familiar materials, sometimes altering them to challenge the viewer's awareness. Kris Martin lives and works in Mullem.
