OPULENTLY INLAID DESK,
Baroque style, Italy, 19th century. In part using older elements from the 17th century.
Walnut, rosewood, ebony and in part finely engraved bone, inlaid as brickwork, geometric reserves and fillets. The ivory plaques engraved with family coat-of-arms, battle scenes, angels and depictions of rural life. Body with 2 drawers. Retracted top with 8 drawers. The sides with sham drawers. Bronze mounts, designed as lion heads (incomplete, in part replaced in a different manner). Some losses and missing parts, requires restoration. The drawers and ivory inlays probably originating from a 17th century cabinet.
