Japan, 18th/19th c. Length 42 cm (bunko) and 27 cm (suzuribako).
Consisting of a large document box (ryôshi bunko) and matching writing box (suzuribako) with ink-grinding stone (suzuri), water dropper (suiteki). The domed covers and sides lacquered with a cherry tree next to a river with a bridge in gold and silver hira- and takamakie with kirikane on roiro. The inner sides beautifully embellished with shell shaped reserves. With lacquered and inscribed tomobako. Some minor damages and restorations. (2)
