A PAIR OF “BARETTA” EARRINGS WITH GLASS CABOCHONS - former Kofler-Truniger collection

Roman, ca. 3rd century AD.
Gold sheet (gold ca. 76–85%) hammered into the shape of stylized dolphins. A red glass bead set in a halo. Small pendant rods with red and green glass beads.
L 2.5 cm, H 4 cm. Total weight ca. 6.9 g.
Gold partly slightly wavy. Some small losses to the pendant.

- Former collections of Ludwig Marx, Mainz, and Albert Sieck, Munich.
- Auction Dr. F. X. Weizinger & Co., Munich, October 28–31, 1918, lot 997, Ill. 34.
- Probably auctioned by Theodor Fischer, Lucerne, June 13–17, 1950, lot 797 (acquired December 1, 1950, according to index card).
- Collection Ernst and Marthe Kofler-Truniger (1903–1990 & 1918–1999), Lucerne (inv. no. K739), acquired from the above.
- Swiss private collection, Lucerne, acquired from the above in ca. 1974.
- By inheritance in the same Swiss family collection, Lucerne.
