Lot 1145 - A190 Decorative Arts - jeudi, 26. septembre 2019, 10h00

PAIR OF DECORATIVE GILT BRONZE SWANS,

after a Meissen porcelain model from 1748 by JOHANN JOACHIM KÄNDLER (1706-1775), Louis XV, Paris, probably 18th century.
Bronze, finely chiseled and embossed, and fire gilt. On a pierced rocaille base, decorated with shells and leaves.
25x18x29 cm.

These two swan models probably go back to the famous Meissen Swan Service, which was designed and produced in 1737 for the Manufactory Director Heinrich Graf von Brühl (1700-1765).
(Cf. U. Pietsch, Schwanenservice. Meissener Porzellan für Heinrich Graf von Brühl, Leipzig, 2000).

Comparable porcelain models, with gilt bronzes, can be found in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, cf. den Blauwen, Meissen Porcelain, 2000, p. 417 Cat. 304 (with further comparative pieces in public collections and auctions).
