CLOCK WITH CARILLON,

so-called "Pendule turque", in the style of Pierre Jaquet-Droz (1721-1790), Neuchâtel ca. 1770/80.
Wooden case, painted with polychrome flowers on a green ground. Rectangular case, in part glazed, the top featuring a vase, and with scrolled feet. Opulent bronze mounts designed as laurel branches and garlands, and flowers. White enamel dial "en cuvette". Movement with verge escapement and carillon with 8 melodies on 12 bells. Petit-Sonnerie on 2 bells, the carillon plays on the hour. Carillon can be switched off, repeat function and dampening. Striking mechanism and carillon require servicing. Movement, somewhat restored, may require servicing.
40x27x68 cm.

This clock is very similar to a clock by Pierre Jaquet-Droz, which was made in 1784 for Franz Victor Effinger. This clock, which is now on display at Schloss Wildenstein in Veltheim, has an almost identical case and differs mainly in its paintwork and in that the carillon is replaced by a pipe musical mechanism. Clocks with such a design were produced for the Turkish market, 2 similar ones are now in the Sultan's Palace in Istanbul.
