LONG-CASE CLOCK WITH DATE AND SECOND, MANUAL EQUATION OF TIME AND PERPETUTAL CALENDAR,

Régence, Paris ca. 1730/40. The dial and movement signed Ageron à Paris. François Ageron, maître 1741.
Tulipwood, purpleheart and satinwood, inlaid "à la reine" and in reserves. Gilt bronze mounts designed as dragons, rocailles, snails, and leaves. Engraved, silver-plated chapter ring with the hours in Roman numerals, date and the second in Arabic numerals, the center gilt. Adjustable silver-plated outer ring featuring months, minutes and dates for a manual perpetual calendar and equation of time. Gilt, pierced minute- and hour hands, and blued date- and second hands. 2 iron weights. 1 key.
54 x 30 x 202 cm.

Case restored. Cracks and losses in the marquetry. Bronze application with crack. A minor part of the movement has been removed, probably the escapement locking mechanism.

François Ageron was a brilliant watchmaker and was known for his high-quality, mainly complicated movements. The unique movement of the clock on offer has a manually-adjustable perpetual calendar, which is reminiscent of an astrolabe in the way it functions.
