The authenticity of the work has been confirmed by Anne Varichon (no written confirmation).

Provenance:
- Private collection, aquired in the 1950s.
- Christie's, New York, auction 7 November 2011, lot 417.
- Private property Switzerland, aquired at the above auction.

In 1912 Albert Gleizes, together with Jean Metzinger, wrote the important and seminal book "Du Cubisme".

The present "Paysage cubiste" from 1914 is an example of the developments described in the Cubist manifesto that were taking place at that time: the simplification of the composition in favour of geometric forms, a dominant pyramid structure and the combination of various perspectives enlivened by strong contrasts of colour.
