INLAID COIFFEUSE

Louis XV, France, Paris, ca. 1765. Signed Bon Durand. Maître from 1761 onwards. With Parisian guild stamp, JME.
Purpleheart, olive wood, satin wood and tulip wood, in veneer and inlaid "en bois de bout" as flowers and tendrils, in framed reserves. Rectangular frame, on curved legs with sabots. Front with central drawer, above, a retractable shelf lined with dark leather. 2 drawers, one of which is a sham drawer. The top divided in three, and hinged. The central part with a mirror, the lateral parts opening up into powder compartments. Inlaid all around with blossoming branches and tendrils. Gilt bronzes as escutcheons and sabots. 1 key.

Interior veneer, restored.

Bon Durand often worked for other ebenists such as Pierre Migeon and Denys Genty, who were also active as furniture dealers and whose work was stamped with their own stamp.
