2 VERRE ÉGLOMISÉ DEPICTIONS OF MOURNERS AT THE CROSS,

Venetia - Tyrol, middle of the 16th century.
Both works feature Christ on the Cross, flanked by Mary and the Disciple Thomas. Mary Magdalene is standing at the base of the cross. With a city view in the background. Mounted on a panel and in a later frame.
25x20 and 23x19 cm.

As a rule, these early works were made after copper engravings which were ubiquitous during the Renaissance. Wolfgang Steiner. ... eine andere Art von Malerey. Hinterglasgemälde und ihre Vorlagen. 1550-1850. Munich 2012.
