RARE CARNET DE BAL

The porcelain from Meissen, ca. 1760-70, the silver-gilt mount from Paris, ca. 1840. Maker's mark Alexandre Jean-Marie Leferre (active from 1837 until after 1860).
Rectangular book, opulently decorated with rocailles and painted with Watteau scenes. Matching engraved silver-gilt sleeve. The interior, lined with light blue taffeta and an ivory insert. The unglazed back features an oval recess, probably for a mirror. No mark.

Inner lining, with signs of wear, and loose.

Alexandre-Jean-Marie Leferre was registered as a "bijoutier-garnisseur" from 1837 until after 1860, in Paris, 159 rue St. Martin. Silver and silver-gilt mounts for snuff boxes, often using 18th-century lacquer, stone and porcelain, were among his specialties.
