CUPBOARD

Grisons, Bonadurer workshop in Arezen, 17th/18th century.
Larch and walnut, carved. Front with 2 doors. Iron lock and mounts. 1 key.
186 x 62 x 198 cm.

- Left door panel lacking 2 mouldings, and further losses to mouldings on left and right sides
- Right door lock damaged
- Sides chipped
- Losses to mouldings on the lower left and right sides
- Moulding below the pilaster strip restored
- Wave moulding to left door panel in need of replacement
- Some parts loose, need to be re-attached

Provenance:
- Private collection, Bündneroberland (Grisons), until the 1960s in Haus Curschellas, Ilanz.
- Originally from Laax, possibly from the de Cabalzar family. According to tradition, French soldiers are said to have tried to open the cupboard (damage to the right-hand door lock) and cut off the nose of an angel (Annual Report of the Rhaetian Museum, 1977).
- Swiss private collection.
