The light intensity and the change of digits can be conveniently changed via the internet browser or an iOS or Android application. In addition, it is possible to display the date (day, month, year) for a few seconds every minute. NX.2 has a wireless Wi-Fi module that connects the watch to the Internet. The time is automatically synchronized via the Internet. The user can access all settings through a browser and update the watch to the latest version thanks to automatic firmware updates. The watch does not require an Internet connection in order to function. The Internet only serves as a synchronization source for the time.
Under the direction of Stefan Kuonen, responsible for the watch and industry division of the Battenberg Foundation, the Nixie tubes were brought out of hiding and reinterpreted in the unique art object NX.2. A Nixie tube is an electronic component for displaying signs based on the principle of the glow lamp. They were in use in the 1960s and 1970s, primarily as digit displays in measuring instruments and electronic calculating machines. For the realization of the ambitious project, Kuonen was supported by the renowned Swiss designer Björn Ischi and the Czech programmer Dalibor Farny, who brought the Nixie tubes to new life. To achieve the desired format of the time display in the NX.2 design object without changing the classic arrangement, four of six Nixie tubes were redesigned to be installed upside down. Like a glow lamp, the inserted characters and numerals are electrically charged, causing the surrounding inert gas to glow. With the time display, using Nixie tubes, Battenberg Innovations breaks new ground. The use and assembly of the Nixie tubes are redefined. This format is exclusive to the NX.2 time display design object.
