A LARGE SUITE OF FURNITURE "À LA REINE"
French Restoration, Belgium, 19th century.
Wood carved with palmettes, fleurons and rosettes, and gilt. Comprising 8 fauteuils and 7 chairs. Padded seats and padded backrests. Beige velour cover decorated with a lyre and a rosette within a laurel wreath.
Fauteuils: 65 × 63 × 100 cm, Chairs: 52 × 48 × 93 cm.
Gilding highly retouched. Some scuffs and losses.
Provenance:
- according to oral sources, from the Royal Palace in Brussels.
- Belgian private collection.
Very similar fauteuils, differing somewhat in the design of the front legs and the end of the backrests, are in the Blue Salon of Queen Wilhelmine, Palais de Bruxelles. Cf.: Meynart et al. "Le Palais de Bruxelles", Fauteuil du Salon Bleu de la reine Wilhelmine", p. 321.
