CLOCK "AU RHINOCEROS",

Louis XV, the model by J.J. DE SAINT-GERMAIN (Jean Joseph de Saint-Germain, 1719 Paris 1791), the dial and movement signed PERACHE A PARIS (Pierre or Jean Pierre Pérache, maître 1733), Paris ca. 1740/50.
Matte and polished gilt bronze. Enamel dial. Two finely pierced, gilt hands. Movement with verge escapement, striking the 1/2-hour on bell. Fine mounts and applications. Gilding restored. Rhinoceros, possibly formerly patinated. Cylindrical case, replaced.
37x14x50 cm.

Provenance:
- from a French collection.

A similar clock with a patinated rhinoceros, from the Alexander Collection, was sold at Christie's New York on 30 April 1999 (Lot No. 115).
