Lot 2823* - A201 Montres-Bracelets & Montres de Poche - mercredi, 29. juin 2022, 11h00

Eugène Lecoultre, extremely rare and technically exceptional pocket watch with retrograde perpetual calendar, chronograph with vertical clutch and 1/4-hour repeater, ca.1880.

Pink gold 750.
D 57.5 mm.

Eugène Lecoultre (1819 - 1882) was an outstanding designer. His workshop was located at 8, Rue Bonivard, Geneva. The great feature of this timepiece is the chronograph with vertical clutch. This design has the advantage that, when starting the chronograph, the second hand does not make any unwanted movement. For many decades, the horizontal clutch dominated the chronograph field, and it is only in the last 10 years or so that the vertical clutch is also being used in high-end wristwatch chronographs. The perpetual calendar of this watch is also elaborately designed. The date display is retrograde, which means that the date hand moves in a semicircle from left to right and jumps back to 1 at the end of the month. The calendar correction is particularly innovative: Only one pusher on the side of the case at 11h enables the date, day of the week, month, and moon phase to be set synchronously.
Case No. 2022, heavy 6-piece savonnette case with exhibition back.
Dial: Fine enamel dial with perpetual calendar: retrograde date, window for the day and month, and moon phase at 12h.
Movement: Very fine lever movement with compensation balance, Breguet hairspring and excenter fine adjustment, 1/4-repeater and chronograph with vertical clutch.
