BILTIUS, CORNELIS
The Hague 1653 – circa 1706 Germany
Cornelis Biltius was a Dutch still life painter originally from The Hague who worked in various parts of Germany. He became known for his trompe l'oeil still lifes of game, hunting accoutrements, kitchen still lifes and writting utensils, which closely resembled the style of his father Jacob Biltius (1633–1681). Cornelis probably learned the painter's trade from his father. From the 1670s he worked in Germany, for instance in Bonn and Cologne. From 1680 to 1686 he worked in Würzburg, Nuremberg and possibly Bamberg. Between 1680 and 1686, Cornelis Biltius was in the service of von Bronsar, Oberhofmeister of the Electorate of Trier.
