Literature:
Jean Melas-Kyriazi: Gustave Loiseau. L’historiographe de la Seine, Athens 1979, p. 40 (illustrated).

The vast majority of Loiseau's works were sold through the Parisian dealer Durand-Ruel, including this painting. In the early 1900s, Loiseau lived modestly and sometimes struggled to cover the costs of travel or stays in the countryside. It was precisely during these years that his collaboration with the Durand-Ruel gallery proved crucial: Durand-Ruel recognized the artist's potential, continuously supported him, and bought his paintings in bulk. This provided Loiseau with financial security, enabling him to work peacefully in Pontoise or along the Oise and Seine rivers.
Despite this improved financial situation, Loiseau continued to live modestly. He led a secluded life, spent much time in the provinces, and found his happiness not in social prominence, but in the quiet beauty of light, rivers, and the changing seasons.
