BOULLE CLOCK ON PLINTH
Régence, Paris, ca. 1720. The movement and dial signed Clouzier à Paris.
Curved case decorated with dark-backed tortoiseshell and engraved brass, and inlaid with tendrils and flowers. Opulent bronze fittings in the form of espagnolettes, mascarons, dragons and bacchantes. Figural finial of the goddess of victory. Allegorical door bronzes. Bronze dial with white enamel cartouches (the inner field replaced). The movement converted to anchor escapement and half-hour strike on bell. Later pendulum. No key.
50 × 26.5 × 132 cm.
The movement requires revision. Some losses to the marquetry. Some of the brass to be reattached.
