SMALL TOWER CLOCK WITH REAR PENDULUM
Southern German, early 17th century.
Copper, chased with cartouches, fruits, and leaves, as well as engraved with leaves, vases, and scrolls, and gilt. Rectangular closed case, the four corners set with fluted columns. Domed belfry, the corners set with balusters. Gilt chapter ring with two hour sequences, Roman numerals from I-XII and Arabic numerals from 13-24. Central alarm disc (fixed). Reverse side with chapter ring for striking mechanism adjustment. Movement with verge escapement and rear pendulum (later conversion, originally with balance wheel). Hour striking mechanism on bell. Alarm mechanism removed.
