Sunlit winter forest.
Oil on canvas.
Signed lower right: Iw. F. Choultsé.

Provenance:
- Swiss collection.
It is hardly surprising that Ivan Fedorovich Choultsé is known as the 'magician of light'. His paintings of winter forests, in which he allows the light of the setting sun to break through the branches of the trees, are particularly fine examples of this (see, for example, Stiftung Choultsé I.F. (ed.): Ein Leben für die Berufung. Werkkatalog von Ivan Fedorovich Choultsé (1874–1939), Zurich 2016, pp. 296 ff.). The present charming work is distinguished by this dreamlike handling of light and the sunlit snow painted with impasto brushstrokes.
