SMALL MANTEL CLOCK - FROM THE LATE THURN & TAXIS COLLECTION
Louis XVI, Paris, ca. 1780. Dial and movement signed Ch(arl)es Le Roy à Paris (master craftsman from 1740).
Gilded bronze. Rectangular, architecturally structured case on round, profiled feet. Upper section with recessed movement. White enamel dial with Arabic hour and quarter hour markings. Parisian movement with half-hour strike on bell. Finial designed as two cooing doves and a torch on a cloud formation. The rectangular base is fluted and finished with laurel garlands, flanked by musical and war trophies. The sides feature openwork rocaille and leaf decoration as well as two rosettes on the front.
