PLATE WITH CROWNED COAT OF ARMS
Strasbourg, Paul Hannong period, ca. 1745–54.
Faience, shaped form painted in overglaze enamels with a crowned coat of arms with a lion passant in the center and Indianische Blumen and floral bouquets on the border. Brown rim line. Unmarked.
Ø 24.5 cm.
Provenance:
- Peter Ducret Collection, Kilchberg; acquired from the above in 1988.
The same coat of arms, probably surmounted by a ducal crown, also appears on a tureen decorated with "Fleurs Fines" (now in the museum in Colmar) and probably belongs to an extensive service. However, since the floral decoration differs, which would be unusual within a service, this plate may have served merely as a trial piece (according to Peter Ducret’s notes).
