The brooch on offer is of a type that belongs to an interesting group of related bronze mask brooches from the late 6th and 7th centuries found in the Balkan countries. J. Werner presented these brooches of the so-called “Sparta-Linkuhnen-Cosovenii” type in 1960 (Germania 38), including an illustration of the brooch on offer from the Kofler-Truninger Collection. Comparisons can be found, among others, in the Diergardt Collection in Cologne (Germania plate 28.2) and in the Stockholm Museum (Germania plate 28.3).
