We are grateful to Michel Rodrigue for identifying this attractive view of the banks of the French river Allier as a work by the hand of Henri Joseph Harpigies on the basis of a photograph. He dates the painting circa 1870. Particularly noteworthy is the influence of Charles-François Daubigny (1817-1878) on the oeuvre of Henri Joseph Harpignies.
