TURRET CLOCK WITH WHEEL BALANCE
South German, Augsburg (?), last quarter of the 16th century.
Bronze and copper, partly pierced, chased, engraved and gilt. Architectural case, the walls engraved with leafy tendrils, fruit and flower vases and scrolls. The corners decorated with pilasters and composite capitals. Dome-shaped, openwork finial with baluster top, the corners of the roof also decorated with baluster vases (one replaced). On a multi-stepped, profiled and partially pierced base. Silver-plated dial engraved with foliage, with a dial for the striking mechanism on the back. Movement with pillar construction, movement and striking mechanism arranged one behind the other. Movement with verge escapement and wheel balance, hour strike on bell in the base. Winding via string and worm wheels.
21 × 20 × 24 cm.
Gilding rubbed, repairs and supplements. Movement needs to be checked. Key missing.
