EQUESTRIAN STATUE OF A ROMAN EMPEROR - The Embden Collection
Probably England, 17th century.
Bronze with brown patina. A Roman caesar on horseback killing a man lying on the ground with his lance. Finely engraved plinth. On a later wooden base.
Without wooden base: 18 × 9.5 × 18 cm.
來源:
The depiction is reminiscent of equestrian compositions by Francesco Fanelli (ca. 1590–1653). Although more dynamic and energetic in gesture, the bronze statuette of St. George slaying a dragon lying on the ground can be cited as a comparison (cf. The National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, formerly The Robert H. Smith Collection, Inv. No. 2022.181.64).
