MANTEL CLOCK / BRACKET CLOCK WITH MOON PHASE AND DATE
England, 18th century. The dial is signed “Jn Hall London” (presumably John Hall, 1767).
Ebonized wood with partly silvered brass mounts. Rectangular case with a recessed, stepped roof, on foliate volute feet. Sides with pierced rocaille grilles and carrying handles; chamfered corner pilasters applied with herms. Partly gilt fronton with silvered chapter ring, small date aperture and arched aperture for the moon phase. Movement plate engraved with foliate volutes. Movement with verge escapement and short rear pendulum. Quarter-hour striking on a bell, together with a six-bell carillon. Repeat on demand. One key.
