Depiction of Pluto in a chariot, abducting Proserpina under the eyes of 3 young women at a pond, in an idealized wooded landscape, with the entrance to the Underworld on the left. Fine border of cartouches and leaves. H 322 cm. B 307 cm. Provenance: - from the W.K. Vanderbilt Collection (died 1920), New York and Rhode Island. - by inheritance from the R. Gaynor Collection, New York (up until 1948). - Wildenstein Collection, Paris. - Auction Christie's London, 15 December 2005 (Lot No. 161). - from an English collection.
