Provenance:
- from a private collection, Germany.

Jeanne-Françoise Julie Adélaïde Récamier (4 December 1777 – 11 May 1849), known as Juliette, was a French socialite, whose salon drew Parisians from the leading literary and political circles of the early 19th century. At the time, she was considered one of the most beautiful women in the world and was painted by famous artist, inter alia, by François Gérard and Jacques-Louis David who painted her reclining on a type of sofa or chaise longue. The récamier, was named after her.

A similar bust - stemming from the Richard Redding Collection - was sold at our December 2011 Auction (Lot No. 1047).
