A bureau-plat by J. Dubois with a very similar design and in part identical bronzes is currently part of the collections of the Petit Palais in Paris (Inventory No. OTUCK00064). A further bureau-plat, comparable in form and the bronzes used, is depicted in Pierre Kjellberg. Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe siècle. Paris 1989. p 273.

Jacques Dubois (1694-1763), one of the most famous ebenists of the time of Louis XV, was appointed master craftsman on 5 September 1742, at the height of the style.
The buyers of his creations were a private clientele of aristocratic rank, including Madame de Grafigny, the Duke of Orleans, and the Duke of Parma.
