Round box, with a depiction of a man and a woman playing chess, with another man looking on. Paintwork after a painting by Chalon. The inside of the bottom of the lacquer box, signed and numbered: two times "ST" and 3680, the inside of the cover, featuring the title "L'échec et mat inévitable d'après Chalon" and the serial number 2796. Papier mâché, varnished oil painting.
