The manuscript derived possibly from Persia, 16th. c. and has been retouched in the 17th. c. in the Indian Deccan. In Kashmir, 19th. c. the manuscript has been remounted on paper and retouched once more, the illustrations to a varying degree.

Compare two folios from most likely the same Shahnama which has been sold at Christie's New York, March 2013, lot 227.

Provenance: Swiss dealer, acquired from an old Swiss private collection.
