Lot 7416 - ibid122 Porcelain – online only - Tuesday, 05. October 2021, 10.00 AM

A SHEPHERD WITH BAGPIPES

Meissen, mid-18th century. Model by J.J. Kändler and P. Reinicke.
Underglaze blue sword mark on the back of the base.
H 9.5 cm/10.5 cm.

The hat, part of the pipe and left hand restored.

The model probably dates from 1745, the painting on the present piece probably slightly later. Presumably created as decoration for the dessert table, these figures were often used by the Parisian marchands-merciers for their gilt bronze clocks and candelabra. (cf. British Museum London, inv. no.1923,0314.21.CR)
