• WHY SHOULD I SELL WITH KOLLER AUCTIONS?
Experience, know-how, and a proven success rate – Koller has been holding auctions for over 60 years, has one of the most experienced teams of specialists in the business, and has established an extremely high success rate with an international clientele of bidders and buyers. We will do everything possible to ensure your work of art sells for the highest possible price.
• WHY SELL AT AUCTION?
In an auction, bidders are often willing to spend more for a work because they are confident that the price reflects the current market – because they have confidence on our valuations, and because other bidders are willing to pay the same price. This is why auctions are often the guide by which art professionals and collectors measure the value of a work.
• HOW CAN I FIND OUT HOW MUCH MY ITEM IS WORTH?
Our specialists are available to give confidential, no-obligations appraisals of one work or an entire collection. We are in daily contact with the art market and current values, and we work with the most renowned experts in each field to determine authenticity.
• CAN I SET A MINIMUM SALES PRICE?
Yes, together with the appropriate specialist, you can set a minimum price under which your item will not be sold.
• DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR AN ESTIMATE?
The first estimate, in view of a sale at auction, is free of charge. If you require valuations for insurance or estate purposes, we will gladly provide a cost estimate for this service.
• CAN THE SPECIALISTS DO AN APPRAISAL AT MY HOME?
Yes, Koller’s specialists are always available to do at-home valuations.
• CAN I BRING MY ITEM TO KOLLER TO BE APPRAISED?
Yes, you can bring your items to Koller to be valued by simply making an appointment.
• DOES KOLLER ACCEPT EVERYTHING FOR AUCTION?
The art market fluctuates over time, and some items are currently not sought-after by our clientele. If we feel there is no chance to sell certain items with us, we will let you know.
• WHAT DOES KOLLER SELL AT AUCTION?
Koller holds auctions in over twenty distinct collecting fields, including all periods of the fine arts (Old Master and 19th century paintings & drawings, Impressionist & Modern art, Post-War & Contemporary art), decorative arts, including antique and design furniture, silver, porcelain and carpets, Asian art, watches, jewellery, books, wine & spirits, and Art Nouveau & Art Deco.
• HOW DOES AN AUCTION WORK?
Once you decide to sell your works at auction, we will take care of everything: shipping, research, cataloguing, marketing and the successful sale of your items. Bidders from all over the world browse our online catalogues or visit our previews, and can bid in several different manners, in-person, online, on the telephone, or by leaving a written bid. On the auction day, the item sells to the highest bidder.
• HOW SOON DO I GET PAID AFTER THE AUCTION?
You will be paid within six weeks of the end of the auction series.
• WHAT DOES IT COST TO SELL AT AUCTION?
Koller, like all auction houses, charges a certain percentage of the sales price, called the seller’s commission. This percentage (which varies depending on the estimated value of the works sold), as well as any other possible costs, are clearly stated before you agree to sell with us.
• CAN I SELL MY ITEM DIRECTLY?
In certain cases, Koller can negotiate a private sale for you, outside of an auction.
• CAN I SELL SOMETHING IF I LIVE OUTSIDE OF SWITZERLAND? WHAT ABOUT CUSTOMS DUTIES AND FORMALITIES?
Koller has years of experience in organising international shipments, and we will take care of all formalities for you and ensure the smooth and successful shipment of your works to Zurich.
• DO I HAVE TO ORGANIZE SHIPPING?
No, Koller will organise the shipping from door to door.
• ONCE I CONSIGN THE ITEM, WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?
Nothing. We will do everything needed to sell your item at the highest possible price.
• WHAT HAPPENS IF MY ITEM DOESN’T SELL AT AUCTION?
Koller will advise you on the next steps that we recommend, based on our observations during the preview and auction.
• CAN I HAVE AN ADVANCE PAYMENT?
In certain cases, an advance payment on the auction proceeds can be arranged.
• DOES KOLLER HOLD ONLINE ONLY AUCTIONS?
Yes, Koller holds ‘ibid’ online auctions concurrent to our saleroom auctions. In these auctions, clients can bid 24 hours a day, until the end time of the auction for each item. Koller can recommend which items are more appropriate for these auctions, and which have more chances of success in a traditional saleroom auction.
• HOW LONG DOES THE AUCTION PROCESS TAKE?
Generally, we accept consignments up to approximately eight weeks before each auction. This allows us the time necessary for research, cataloguing, catalogue production, marketing and previews before the auction.
• WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS FOR THE SELLER?
You can find our conditions for the seller here.
