MYTENS, MARTIN THE YOUNGER. (Stockholm 1695 - 1770 Vienna) Portrait of Princess Maria Theresia of Austria, with Imperial Hungarian crown. Circa 1743. Oil on canvas. 92 x 73.8 cm. Provenance: - Dorotheum, Vienna, 13.-16.9.1966, Lot 71. - Swiss private collection. Sabine Craft-Giepmans of RKD, The Hague, has confirmed the authenticity of this work on the basis of a photograph.
Provenienz: - Auktion Dorotheum, Wien, 13.-16.9.1966, Los 71. - Schweizer Privatsammlung. Sabine Craft-Giepmans vom RKD, Den Haag, bestätigt die Eigenhändigkeit anhand einer Fotografie, wofür wir ihr danken. Ein vergleichbares und etwas grösseres Porträt der Maria Theresia von Martin Mytens d. J. wurde aus der Sammlung des Kommerzialrates Arthus Specht am 23.2.1931 in Wien verkauft (C. J. Wawra, Los 146). Im Dorotheum Katalog von 1966 wird unser Gemälde mit der verso Beschriftung "pinxit Meydens sacrae Regin. Maest: Hung: et Beheim: Pictor Vienna Austr. Mense Febra. 1743" erwähnt, welche heute durch die Doublierung der Leinwand verdeckt ist.
