Lot 2861 - A201 Wristwatches & Pocketwatches - Wednesday, 29. June 2022, 11.00 AM
Patek Philippe, rare and attractive Jumbo Nautilus with original warranty certificate, 1979.
What caused an uproar in the watch world over 40 years ago has now become a cult object: the sportive, elegant Nautilus by Patek Philippe. A steel watch did not fit the profile of gold luxury watches - even more so with its eye-catching size and extravagant shape. Patek Philippe's goal was to appeal to a new generation of active, sportive people. The launch of the watch was supported by an advertising campaign that was as original as it was cheeky: "One of the most expensive watches in the world is made of steel !" was the title of a sensational ad.
