A FINE STONE HEAD OF A BODHISATTVA. China, Liao dynasty 11th c. Height 34 cm. Crown and hair painted, traces of gilding. Originally from the collection of Gerhard Versteegh, a friend of King Gustav VI of Sweden.

Grauer Stein mit Resten von Lackvergoldung. Der Bodhisattva trägt eine hohe, farbig gefasste Krone auf den spiralförmig drapierten Locken. Die schräg gestellten Augen mit den geschwungenen Brauen, der fein modellierte Mund mit dem Anflug eines Lächelns und die schmale Kopfform verleihen dem Gesicht einen edlen, femininen Ausdruck.
