This initial V with an unusual depiction of the Ascension of Christ, may have opened the antiphonary for the laude for the Feast of the Ascension. As Ada Labriola has rightly recognised, these initials cannot with any certainty be attributed to the Master of the Massa Marittima Choir Books, but rather to a presumably somewhat younger Sienese contemporary, Master of the Statutes of 1337.
