A FINE BRONZE FIGURE OF THE SAKYA MASTER ZHANG KÖNCHOG PÄL (1240-1317). Tibet, 16th c. Height 21 cm. Inscription at base. Commissioned by two persons of Chölung monastery, founded in the 16th century and converted to a Gelug monastery in the mid 17th century.

Unvergoldete Bronze, die Augen sind in Silber, die Lippen in Kupfer eingelegt. Der barhäuptige Mönch sitzt auf einem doppelten Lotosthron mit Inschrift am unteren Rand. Die Rechte ist in der Geste der Argumentation erhoben, die Linke gewährt Wünsche. Das Mönchsgewand ist mit breiten fein gravierten Säumen geschmückt und lässt den rechten Arm frei. Die Inschrift lautet: "Verehrung dem Zhang Könchog Päl / ich verneige mich respektvoll vor dem Siegreichen / gestiftet von den zwei dKon des Haushaltes von Kloster Chölung".
