IMPORTANT CLOCK "LE SACRIFICE A L'AMOUR",Louis XVI, the model and the bronzes by F. REMOND (François Rémond, 1747-1812), the movement probably by J. REVEL (Joseph Revel, maitre 1775), the relief plaque probably by E. MARTINCOURT (Etienne Martincourt, died 1796), Paris circa 1785/95. White marble with matte and polished gilt bronze. Detachable front with arched window for 2 rotating, dark blue enamel rings. Rare, exceptionally fine spring-driven brass movement with complex trigger for the clockwork and striking mechanism. Rich, very fine gilt mounts and applications in the form of a relief plaque depicting a sacrificial scene, garlands, branches, flowers, rosettes, acanthus decoration, beading and decorative frieze. 31.5x17x52.5 cm. Hochbedeutende Pendule von perfekter Qualität; sie ist abgebildet in: H.L. Tardy, Les plus belles pendules françaises, Paris 1994; S. 256. Vergleichbare Uhren sind abgebildet in: ibid, S. 213, und in: E. Niehüser, Die französische Bronzeuhr, München 1997, S. 251. Letztere ist mit einer von J. Revel signierten Plakette versehen - daher scheint eine Zuschreibung unserer Pendule an diesen Uhrmacher sinnvoll. Das ausserordentlich feine Bronzerelief mit der Darstellung einer Opfergabe an Amor (unterhalb der Zifferringe) ist in Wedgwood- und Bronze-Ausführung an bedeutenden Möbel von J.H. Riesener zu finden, wie z.B. an einem Sekretär, der sich heute in der Wallace Collection in London befindet, oder an einem weiteren Sekretär, der im Getty Museum in Malibu ausgestellt ist. Eine vergleichbare Plakette findet man an einer Pendule "L'amour triomphant", die ein von J.B. Lepaute signiertes Werk besitzt und abgebildet ist in: W.E. Edey, French clocks in North American Collection, Ausstellungskatalog der Frick-Collection, November 1982 bis Januar 1983; S. 79 (Nr. 70). Ihre Bronzen wurden ebenfalls von F.
