MANTEL CLOCK WITH BOULLE MARQUETRY

Louis XIV, Paris ca. 1700. The movement signed PEQUET À PARIS. Later "mariage".
Rectangular case with marquetry in brown tortoiseshell and brass, designed as tendrils, leaves, vases, a dancing couple, etc. Bronze mounts designed as espagnolettes, scrolled leaves, flowers, and garlands. The top, decorated with 2 putto figures. Relief-decorated bronze dial with white enamel cartouches. Movement modified to anchor escapement, striking the 1/2-hour on bell.
40 x 16 x 78 cm.
