Literature: Loreau, Max: Catalogue des travaux de Jean Dubuffet, fascicule XIV: Célébration du sol II, texturologies, topographies, Paris 1965, no. 40 (with ill.).
“I set out to undertake all kinds of experiments on the canvas with the most diverse range of structures, stains, spraying, etc.; then I was able to cut out the parts that suited me best and put them together at will. My main interest in such a technique was the fact that I was able to produce the splashes as desired with the greatest possible freedom and ease, without having to take care not to damage the remaining parts of the picture. In all my previous work, I always felt a strong desire to paint daringly and with a full sense of danger, to produce all possible “accidents”, more or less willed and controlled”. (Dubuffet, jean. Prospectus et tous écrits suivants, Paris 1967, vol. II, p. 116)
