Dr. Michael Hofbauer points out that our painting was probably originally designed as Salome with the head of John the Baptist, dating back to Lucas Cranach's composition in the Schlossmuseum Schloss Friedenstein in Gotha (Inv. No. SG 303). The lower part of our painting was probably auctioned at the Scheublein Auction House in 2017. We thank Dr. Hofbauer for his advise.
