ELEGANT LADY'S SECRETAIRE

Louis XV, Paris or Grenoble ca. 1760.
Tulipwood and purpleheart, in part in veneer and inlaid in matching reserves and fillets. Curved legs with sabots. Folding writing surface, the inside lined with leather, opening up into two compartments, four drawers and a secret compartment underneath a sliding cover. Front with two small drawers. Bronze mounts. 1 key. Free-standing.
83 x 47 (79) x 93 cm.

Bleached. The rear-side with a crack. Restorations.

An elegant and finely-crafted lady's desk. The design of the desk on offer matches work by the Hache brothers who were active in Grenoble. However, their marquetry is much more elaborate. Cf. Pierre Rouge/François Rouge: Le Génie des Hache, Dijon 2005, pp. 370-374 with illustrations of very similar lady's desks.
